Tea Tree Oil is the essential oil produced by steam extraction from the leaves and terminal branches of the Australian native plant, Melaleuca alternifolia Cheel. It contains various phytochemicals among which terpin-4-ol is the major component. The oil has been described as colorless to pale yellow. The scent or smell is medicinal, fresh, woody, earthy and camphor-like. Tea tree oil has a long history of use and well documented antibacterial and antiseptic properties.
